I turned and walked away, heading out to my car, I was just opening the door when I someone grabbed my wrist. I turned and shrieked, having been lost in thought and totally not expecting anyone to come up behind me like that. I found myself pressed tightly against a rock hard body and looking into a pair of deep brown eyes. “Sidney oh my fucking God, you scared the fucking crap out of me!” I gasped.
He was still in most of his padding. He smelled disgusting. But none of that stopped the hotness. “Where are you going?” He asked softly, his eyes demanding.
“For a drive.” I said quietly.
“Why didn’t you wait for me? I told Danny to tell you that I’d be out as soon as I could be.” He said, his arms going around my waist, holding me prisoner against him.
My heart was beating so fast I thought I might pass out. Coby had certainly never made me feel this way. I mean, we’d had good times, and he was hot and all, but never had his eyes held me prisoner the way Sidney’s were. “Because I have stuff I need to think about.” I replied, surprised when my voice was no louder then a whisper.
“Come over tonight.” He said, letting me go.
I stepped back, dazed. He was letting me go? Wasn’t he supposed to want me more then anything else? Wasn’t this the part where he was supposed to convince me to change my plans to fit his? “What?” I asked staggered.
“Go for your drive.” He said softly. “And when you’re done thinking, come over.” I looked up at him expectantly. “Fuck.” He whispered, pulling me into him his mouth coming crushing down on mine.
I couldn’t breathe. My heart and my mind were racing. My knees went weak, only Sidney’s arms wrapped around me kept me from falling over. His mouth was warm and demanding, his breath fresh. I kissed him back as hard as he was kissing me. Finally, he let me go, kissing me softly on the forehead as he did so. “You’ll come over?” He whispered softly into my hair.
“I’ll be there.” I replied. “Thanks.”
I turned and got into my car. Apparently it was that obvious. Apparently everyone could see it. This was what I’d wanted after all. I’d wanted to bag the phenom. Now I had. But I didn’t get the same feeling of victory that I had when I’d managed to snag Coby. It wasn’t that I felt let down or anything… I was just… happy. Not elated that I’d won. I was just happy.
I drove aimless for over and hour, listening to music and thinking about my life. About school, my parents, learning to speak French, about Sidney, Mark, Danny, Eric and everyone. Finally I drove up to Eric and Sidney’s place. There were cars all over the place. The guys did have a game the next day, but a win was a cause to celebrate, and some people had obviously come over to congratulate the guys.
I made my way into the house. “Hey Nickie.” Alex found me almost immediately, and wrapped an arm around my waist.
“Hey.” I said, shrugging out of his grasp. “Where’s Darryl?” I asked.
“I haven’t seen him.” Alex said shrugging.
“Really?” I asked, a little confused. “He told me to be here.”
Alex shrugged. “Ask Eric if he’s seen him.”
I wandered into the living room, where Eric was sitting, playing Madden. “Hey Eric hun, have you seen Sid?” I asked.
“Check his room.” Eric replied, clearly distracted. “I haven’t seen him since we got home.”
I wandered down the hall, and knocked softly. A couple of seconds later, the door opened and a rumpled Sidney answered the door. He’d clearly been asleep. “I’m sorry.” I whispered looking down. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”
He pulled me into his arms and into his room, closing the door behind us. “I figured I’d sleep until you got here.” He said, lifting my chin so I was looking into his eyes.
I stretched up and kissed him softly on the lips. Part of me wanted this boy more then I’d ever wanted any guy. We stumbled and kissed our way towards the bed, and Sidney pushed me backward onto the bed. That brought me back down to earth. “Sid, stop.” I said quietly.
He stopped instantly. “What’s wrong?” He asked.
His eyes were so wide, and he looked so surprised and so… young. I almost wanted to just keep going and to hell with the consequences. But I couldn’t. I may dress like a skank Ms. Kulak, but that doesn’t mean I am one. “Why?” I asked softly.
“Why what?” He replied, his eyes teasing.
“Why me?” I asked.
Sidney rolled off me and put his arms behind his head. I sat up slightly so I was looking down at him, my head propped up on my elbow. “Because I want to get to know you better.” He said.
“And kissing me accomplishes that?” I asked teasingly.
He wrapped his hand around my head, tangling his fingers in my hair. “No.” He whispered softly, pulling my face to his. “That’s just an added bonus.”
We kissed for what seemed like an eternity. He smelt good now and I couldn’t help but trail my hands over his chest. It was well muscled and I loved it. “Umm Sidney.” I murmured into his lips.
He stopped kissing me and looked at me teasingly. “What brat?” He asked.
I hit him softly. “Look whose talking phenom.” I said grinning back at him. “The entire country spoils you.”
He laughed and rolled me beneath him and kissed me again. “The only person I want spoiling me is you.” He said. “And you’re the only person that I want to spoil.”
“And how exactly are you going to spoil me?” I asked.
He kissed me quickly. “That’s for me to know and you to find out.”
I glanced over at the clock. It was nearly midnight. “You have to play tomorrow.” I whispered. “I should go.”
He wrapped an arm tightly around my waste and pulled me into him, spoon style. “Stay.” He whispered. “Mrs. Paradis won’t notice that you didn’t come home.” He pointed out. “And we won’t do anything unless you want to.”
“I dunno….” I said slowly.
He stroked my hair softly. “Just until I fall asleep.” He whispered. “I promise Nickie… we don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do… I do have some self-control you know.”
His arms were so comfortable. It wasn’t like it had been with Coby… always pushing me to go farther and do more. I cuddled against him. “Fine.” I mumbled softly. “Have it your way.”
I’m not sure how long it was before we fell asleep, but the next thing I knew, someone was in the room and screaming at in French. I woke up slowly. “What the…?” I started.
My eyes adjusted to the light, which was shinning brightly from the hallway. Bianca stood in the doorway yelling. She stormed to the bed when she saw me sit up and hit me twice. “Poutain!” She screeched. “I’ll est MON chum, pas le tien! MON chum!”
I scrambled backwards. I was still fully clothed, and so was Sidney. “What the hell is going on?” I demanded.
Bianca took a deep breath. “I came to see Sidney the way I ALWAYS do after games… always, and I find you in his bed you whore!”
“Quit fucking screaming.” I snapped. “Sidney and I are both fully clothed.” I pointed out. “And we were just sleeping.”
“Bianca what on earth?” Sidney asked, sitting up and wrapping a protective arm around my shoulders. “Get out of here.”
“I always come over after games.” She nearly cried. “Always. We make love… always.”
I turned to Sidney. “When is the last time you slept with her?” I asked, my voice soft.
“Last night!” Bianca said triumphantly.
I looked at Sidney. “Is that true?” I asked softly.
He suddenly looked like he was trapped. That was all the answer I needed. “I need to go.” I mumbled, feeling stupid. Of course he didn’t want to sleep with me. He didn’t have to have me. He had Bianca. He could have an emotional connection with me and he could fuck her.
“Nickie wait, please.” Sidney said, grabbing my hand.
“Sidney don’t.” I said firmly, pulling my arm away from him. “I do not need this.” I said firmly.
“You don’t need what?” He demanded.
“I don’t need a guy who claims to have self-control but who fucks his ex every chance he gets.” I said.
“Nickie….” He said softly reaching for me.
“Sidney, look, you need to deal with things with Bianca.” I said insistently. “This isn’t fair to her either. It’s leading her on. I don’t want you to lead me on, and I don’t want you to lead her on either.”
Bianca was standing there glaring daggers at me. Sidney tried to kiss me, but I turned away. "No.” I said firmly. “Deal with this first.” I said. “When you get back from Baie-Comeau we’ll talk.”
“But Nickie…”
“Sidney I need some time to think.” I said. “And you need some time to decide what really matters to you.”
“What do you mean?” He asked, running a hand through his hair.
“Sidney do you not think I know what you’ve been doing since you came out here?” I asked. “I’ve heard every story there is. I know you don’t like gossip, but there is always some basis in truth hun, I’ve learned that the hard way.” I paused. “I know that Bianca isn’t the only girl you’ve been sleeping with, and I don’t really care about what you were doing before you decided to kiss me and treat me like I was something special.”
“You are something special.” Sidney said, his eyes burning into mine. “And I still want to know the secrets that are hiding behind your eyes.”
Bianca snorted. “What secrets?” She demanded. “That her little brother got himself killed in some accident and that her parents don’t want her so they shipped her out here?”
Sidney, who had clearly never heard any version of the story, looked startled, and I glared at Bianca, throwing myself at her with a growl. “Don’t you EVER say anything about my little brother again, you hear me?” I snapped. “You don’t know anything about Frankie or how he died, so you don’t ever say anything about him again!”
“What happened to your brother Nickie?” Sidney asked, reaching for me and pulling me away from Bianca and into his arms.
“None of your business.” I snapped, blinded by anger. “I don’t know if I can trust you yet Sidney… and don’t tell me you haven’t given me a reason not to trust you, because the fact that you lied by omission is still lying.”
He sighed deeply. “You’re right.” He admitted. “I did lie by omission, and I’m sorry.”
I looked at Bianca, scorn probably evident on my face. “I’ll tell you the exact same thing I’ve told Sidney every time he’s called me a brat.” I said fiercely. “You know nothing about me or my family or my life. So keep your fucking mouth shut.” I paused and added. “Or next time I will take what you say personally and you won’t like the results.”
