The Girl Next Door Chapter 51

Kate stood there in disbelief for a second as they both clicked their phones shut, and then she squealed like a little girl as she jumped into his arms. He swung her around once and then put her down before he pushed back a lock of her hair and kissed her. The two of them stood there kissing each other for a minute before breaking apart and turning their kiss into an embrace.
“You came back early!” Kate whispered to him in disbelief.
“I couldn’t wait to see you,” he whispered into her ear.
He gave Kate another kiss before they walked inside. Tom had just walked inside, and saw Kate and Sidney closing the front door.
“Sidney! You’re back early,” he said, walking over to Sidney to shake his hand.
“Yeah, Mr. Hanson,” he said, shaking Tom’s hand back. “I decided to surprise Katie.”
“Well, it’s nice to see you. Great job at worlds.”
“Thanks, sir. It was a lot of fun.”
“You’re welcome. Well, I’ll leave you two alone. Nice to see you Sidney.” Tom walked upstairs and left Sidney and Kate alone.
“So, how was Europe?” Kate asked him as he took her hand and they walked into the family room.
“So much fun,” he said, smiling. “I had a great time. I saw some of my old friends, and we just hung out.”
He told Kate more about his trip, and the two of them talked for a long time. Sarah came home, and talked to Sidney for a little bit, and then she and Tom went to a friend’s house for a party, and Kate and Sidney went over to Mario’s for dinner, because he was having a cookout, which most people do on Memorial Day. It was relaxing, and the two of them caught up with everyone else too. Kate stayed there until after ten, and then decided to go home because Sidney was so tired. Kate had to work in the morning, and the two of them decided to get together in the afternoon. So, she kissed Sidney good-bye as he was about to fall asleep right next to her, and she went home.
The next morning, Kate got up, took a shower and got ready, ate breakfast, and went off to work. No one was really even there since school was still going on, so it was mainly a bunch of preschoolers there for “Learn to Skate” classes, which Kate refused to teach, since she had very little patience. Around eleven thirty, Kate was sitting at the front desk, reading a book, when someone came up and asked, “Excuse me miss, is it too late to sign up for ‘Learn to Skate’ classes?”
Kate looked up from her book, and laughed. It was Sidney, with a Subway bag in one hand, and drinks in the other.
“Sorry, it’s too late, sir,” Kate laughed. “But I don’t think you need them.”
Kate saw her boss, and asked him if she could eat her lunch now. He saw who Kate was standing with and told her to take her lunch. Kate and Sidney walked outside and walked around to the back of the building where no one would see them. They found a sunny spot and sat down.
“Thanks for lunch,” she said, giving him a kiss on the cheek and taking the drinks out of his hand. “I’m done at one.”
“How long do you have for lunch?” he asked as they sat down.
“Oh, twenty minutes,” Kate said. “So, what’d you get me? I’m starving.”
Sidney laughed, pulled her sub out of the bag, and handed it to her. The two of them sat there, eating and talking until it was time for Kate to get back to work. He said he’d see her later, and Kate thanked him for lunch. She walked back inside, sat down at the desk, and read her book until she was done, because no one else came in.
