The Girl Next Door Chapter 32

After Kate told Sidney where she was going to college, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off her back. She knew she made the right decision, and she felt like her relationship with Sidney really had a chance since she was staying in Pittsburgh to be with him.
Their first Saturday back, the guys decided to have a party at Fleury’s apartment, just to hang out by themselves. Most of the guys showed up, some with their girlfriends, some without. Kate brought her cookies, at the request of Ryan Whitney, and once again, they were all gone by the time they left. Kate became completely happy with going to Pitt while she was at the party. She couldn’t bear to leave the team. She couldn’t leave Sidney, Colby, Michel, Fleury, any of the guys. They had become her best friends; she was out with them all the time. She knew it was going to be bad enough when all of them went their separate ways after the season; she couldn’t imagine going out to Minnesota for school, and never seeing them. The only guys on the team that would be around after the season were Ryan Malone, and Sidney (sometimes). They’d all start to come back in August, but for May, June, and July, there would practically be none of them around.

The next day, the team had the day off, so Sidney and Kate just decided to hang out at her house. When they decided to watch a movie, Sidney picked, and made Kate close her eyes. When she saw that it was Miracle (her favorite movie, every hockey player loved it), she smiled, and gave him a kiss. She put her head on his shoulder, and they sat there, and watched the beginning of the movie.
When the man that plays Dave Silk popped up, Kate went:
“Did I ever tell you that’s my cousin?”
“What?” he asked her. “The guy that plays Dave Silk is your cousin?”
“Yep, my cousin Bobby Hanson,” she told him, smiling. “It’s my dad’s older brother’s son. He moved out to Boston after he graduated from high school, and went to college there, and ended up staying.”
“That’s incredible,” he said. “Do you talk to him a lot?”
“Ya, my brother and I talk to Bobby all the time. He played for Boston University, and we’d go up a lot to see him play. He’s a scout for USA Hockey now.”
“That’s cool,” he replied. “Did you go up to see him while he was filming?”
“We did,” she told him. “My hockey team, we take a big trip every other year to play in a tournament. The year they filmed it, 2003, we decided to go to Vancouver because of it. He got us on-set, and we got to meet everyone, including Kurt Russell. We got to watch them practice and stuff, and film a little bit, because it was early on in filming. I never told you that?”
“Never!” he said in disbelief.
“I thought I did,” she said, smiling at him.
Kate told him they’d go to her room to get the pictures later. They sat and watched the movie for a few more minutes, then decided to share something else with Sidney.
“I saw you play at Shattuck,” she told him.
