The Girl Next Door Chapter 39

The next day, Sidney stopped by for a little bit, and Kate introduced him to Bobby and Nikki. All of them talked for awhile, and then Sidney went back home to get ready for his game, and they said they would meet up afterwards. Kate walked with Sidney to the Lemieux’s so they could have a little time alone. They talked for the short walk there, and then when they got there he pulled her behind his car, so no one on the street could see them, and he started to kiss her, more passionately than they had ever kissed before. They made out for a couple of minutes, until Sidney got a call on his phone.
“Come on,” he angrily said. “Hello?”
“You coming home soon?” Nathalie asked.
“I’m home, just outside the door,” he told her. “I’ll be in in a minute.”
He hung up, and then Sidney kissed Kate good-bye. Kate went back home, and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon, and then everyone got ready for the game.

So, the eight of them went down to the game. Sidney had gotten Kate extra tickets for the game, in their section, so they all managed to sit together. Kate was pointing out who was who to Bobby and Nikki, who followed the Penguins, but were big Bruins fans. Everyone was having a great time watching the game until the power suddenly went off. At this, Kate, Neal, Allison, and Rachel started chanting, “New arena!” Everyone joined in, and in a couple of minutes, a video for Pittsburgh First popped up, prompting even more cheers. Then, after a delay, the game started up again, but didn’t last for long, since the power went again, sparking the chants once again. The outage lasted for even longer, and both together delayed the game for over forty-five minutes.
The game didn’t end until after ten-thirty, but everyone still went down afterwards to say hi. All eight of them went down (much to the dismay of the same security guard that tried to keep Allison, Neal, and Kate out at training camp) to see the team. Kate introduced Bobby and Nikki to a lot of the team.
“Hey, Colby,” Kate said as he walked in the room.
“Katie,” he said, walking up to her.
“Colby, I want to introduce you to my cousin, Bobby, and his wife, Nikki. You guys, this is Colby Armstrong, Sidney’s on the same line.”
“Nice to meet you Colby,” Bobby and Nikki said, shaking his hand.
“You too,” Colby replied.
They talked for a minute, until Sidney came out, and Colby said he had to go. Sidney walked over to them, and reached out for Kate’s hand to hold.
“Great game, huh?” he asked, laughing.
“I think it’s time for a new arena,” Rachel said.
All of them laughed, and talked about the outages. Then, everyone left the room, giving Kate and Sidney a moment alone, since everyone else on the team had left.
“I can only stay a minute,” she said.
“I know,” he said, leaning in and kissing her.
After about a minute, Kate broke apart from him and said, “I have to go!”
“No you don’t,” he said, kissing her again.
“Yes, I do,” she said, breaking apart from a kiss that seriously took her breath away. “I have school tomorrow! And what are my parents going to think if we’re in here much longer?”
“Guess you’re right,” he said, jokingly pouting.
They both walked out of the room, and then went their separate ways, and went home.

The next few days, everyone went back home, except for Neal and Allison, who were on spring break. Then, on Wednesday, after the team got back from a loss at Ottawa, Sidney announced that his parents and sister were coming to town for the weekend, since Taylor was on spring break, and the team had two home games. He said they were coming in Friday morning, and that on Saturday night, he asked Kate to come out to dinner with them. Kate had spent some time with the Crosbys, like at training camp, and a couple of other games, but no real quality time with them. She looked forward to having a chance to get to know them better.
