The Girl Next Door Chapter 53

“You saved me,” Kate said as she closed the door and leaned over to kiss Sidney.
“I do my best,” he answered back after they kissed.
After he put the car in drive, he reached for Kate’s hand and gently intertwined his fingers with hers. Kate looked at him and smiled, sat back in her seat, and just relaxed, knowing it was one of the few times she’d be able to for the next few days.
The two of them went to the movies, and just hung out at Mario’s until it was time for Kate to go home. So, Sidney walked her home, the two of them holding hands. When they reached Kate’s front door, Sidney pulled her close to him, leaned down, and kissed her, and they kept kissing until, all of a sudden, the front door swung open a minute later. The two of them broke apart quickly.
“Oh, Kate,” her dad said, obviously a little embarrassed that he had seen this. “I was just going to get something out of the car.”
He walked past the two of them, and walked out to his car. Kate’s face was red (and so was Sidney’s) as Sidney kissed her on the cheek, and told her he’d see her tomorrow.
“Having fun with Sidney, Katie?” her dad asked as they walked inside.
“Um, yes,” Kate said, a little embarrassed.
“I didn’t know you two were out there.”
The two of them walked their separate ways, silently, and Kate walked up to her room. She flopped down onto her bed, called up Rachel, and told her what happened. Rachel laughed, and she told Kate how that had happened to her before too. They talked for a few minutes longer and then Rachel had to go, so they said they’d talk later.

The next morning, Kate woke up to her cousin Andrew knocking on the door, telling Kate to get up and go to the airport. So, Kate changed her clothes, put up her hair, and grabbed her mom’s keys as she walked out the door. She had to pick up five people from the airport right away, and then more people later. She didn’t even grab something to eat, because she didn’t want to talk to her relatives. She stopped for breakfast on the way, and got to the airport early. She waited for her grandma, Aunt Sue, Uncle Larry, and her cousin Kristen as she sipped on her drink. She saw them come out of security, and she walked over to them with a big smile on her face.
“Hey everyone!” Kate excitedly said as they gave her a hug.
“How are you Katie?” her grandma asked.
“Oh, everything’s fine now. Thank God you guys are here.”
“Sick of them already Kate?” Kristen asked with a smile on her face.
“You have no idea,” Kate said. “But, I hung out with my friend last night, so that helped.”
They walked down to baggage claim, and talked along the way. On the way back home, Kate got a phone call from Sidney.
“Hey, sweetie, you’re up early,” Kate said into the phone.
At that moment, Kristen looked at her wide-eyed. Kate gave her a look back that said, Just wait a minute.
“Yeah, I couldn’t sleep,” Sidney replied. “I knew you’d be up, so I decided to give you a call.”
“I just picked up my relatives, and we’re down at baggage claim.”
“Oh, sorry, want me to call you back later?” he asked.
“It’s okay. I’ll give you a call later, okay?”
“Okay, love you.”
“You too, bye.”
The second Kate hung up her phone Kristen immediately pulled Kate a few feet away from the rest of her family.
“Who was that?” Kristen asked.
“Um, well,” Kate sputtered.
“You have a boyfriend?!?! And you didn’t tell me?” Kristen squealed.
“Okay, yes I do, but you can’t tell anyone,” Kate told her.
“Okay! I promise! What’s his name?”
“Sidney.”
Kristen’s jaw immediately dropped. “Is his last name Crosby?” she asked when she recovered a few seconds later.
“Yes,” Kate whispered.
“No way! Why haven’t you told me?”
“Because, the last thing Sidney needs is more people asking him about his personal life.”
At that point, her relatives signaled to Kate that they had found their bags, and needed a little help. So, Kate grabbed a bag, and they walked to the car. They chatted on the way home, and Kristen kept giving Kate looks in the rearview mirror, which made Kate laugh. She helped move everyone inside, and finally Kate got a minute to rest and think about what to do with telling her relatives about Sidney.
