The Girl Next Door Chapter 46

After the game, everyone in the box went down to see the team. The team couldn’t stay long, because they were leaving right after the game to drive to Bridgeport, since they had an afternoon game the next day. Kate talked to just about everyone, and said her good-byes to them, since she wasn’t sure when she would see them next. She wasn’t sure if she would be coming up for another game in Wilkes-Barre, because the team might not make it out of the first round of playoffs. But, she didn’t say that, she just said she’d see them soon.
After the team had left, everyone that had been in the box went out to the bar they had been at the night before. Kate and Sidney were the only underage ones in the group, but Kate managed to get a beer from Colby, and Sidney managed to have a few, and he was having a good time. When Colby offered her another one, she declined, because she knew she would have to drive Sidney and herself back to the hotel in a few hours.
All of them had a great time (and Sidney ended up a little drunk, but wasn’t out of control), and none of them left until after one. They just sat around, having a good time, laughing about everything, and didn’t talk about hockey that much, with the exception of Colby bringing it up. Colby, as it turned out, was able to do a good impression of Coach Therrien, which made everyone in the group crack up, and Ryan was laughing so hard, he could barely keep his beer in his mouth.
Around one-fifteen, Colby and his girlfriend decided to call it a night, and they left after saying their good-byes. Sidney and Kate decided to leave next, and Ryan left with them too. Kate wished him good luck at the world championship, and then Sidney and she walked out to the car, Kate getting the keys from Sidney.
After they got back inside the room, Kate went and got ready for bed. After she was done in the bathroom, she walked back out into the room and found Sidney, already asleep, in his undershirt and boxers. Kate smiled, and got into bed next to him, covering both of them up with the sheets. She turned off the light, and quickly fell asleep.
The next morning, Kate woke up early, got dressed, and ran out to get breakfast around ten. When she returned, Sidney was still asleep. She sat down on the bed, and kissed him on the cheek.
“It’s time to get up,” she whispered in his ear.
He slowly opened his eyes, and smiled. “Hey.” He sat up, and immediately put his hand on his forehead. “Oh man, I’ve got a headache.”
“I’m not surprised, that’s why I got you these,” she laughed, handing him a Starbucks cup and paper bag with a bagel in it, and a bottle of Tylenol.
“Thanks,” he lightly laughed, as he took those from Kate and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “You know I love you, right?”
“Yes,” Kate said, smiling.
They sat around and ate their breakfast. As soon as they were done, they each took a shower, then packed up their things, and left. Kate drove the first part of the way home, and Sidney the second part. They got back to Sewickley around four, and Kate called both of her parents, and told them she was home.
“Did you have a good time?” her mom asked.
“Yes, we had fun with everyone,” Kate told her.
“You didn’t get into any trouble?”
“No Mom, still the same person I was before I left.”
“Good.”
Sidney had dropped Kate off, and gone home. They were going to have dinner with the Lemieuxs that night, so Kate was going to see him later.
Kate’s mom wouldn’t be home until Tuesday, the day Sidney left to go back to Canada. Her dad wouldn’t be home until the day after that, so Kate still had the house to herself the next couple of days.
That night, Kate stayed at the Lemieuxs until ten, just watching TV with the kids and Mario and Nathalie. Kate had to leave, so Sidney walked her home. They walked back to Kate’s slowly, holding hands. As they reached Kate’s, Sidney gave Kate a kiss, and said goodbye.
