Chapter 33 - An American Flavour

I didn’t stay in the Team USA dressing room for very long. I mean, I loved Zachie, and I was thrilled for him, but he was acting like an arrogant ass. So was the goaltender. Part of me was tempted to point out that he wasn’t as hot as he thought he was, so that’s when I figured I should get the hell out of there.
I found my Dad talking to some of the Team Canada brass. “Daddy?” I asked.
“What do you need baby?” He asked, not bothering to look at me.
“May I please take the car and go back to the hotel? You were right about the champagne thing, and I’d like to take a shower. Sidney is going to come to visit later.” I explained.
“Of course baby.” Dad said, with a smile and a shake of his head. “Just make sure to tell the driver that I need him to be back here.”
“I will.” I promised. “I’m just going to go tell Sid what’s going on.”
I wandered back into the Team Canada dressing room, where the boys were, as promised, showered, changed and in the middle of talking to the media. “Excuse me for a moment.” I said to the guy from TSN who was talking to Sid.
“Kally?” Sidney said questioningly, with an amused and tolerant smile on his face.
I shrugged. Sid knew full well that I was probably one of the only people he knew who that would dare to interrupt a member of the press. “I’m going to head back to the hotel kid.” I told him. “I’ll see you there when all this is done?” I asked, with a wave of my hand around the crowded dressing room.
He stood and kissed me on the cheek. “Of course baby.” He told me. “Do you mind if I invite a couple of the guys up for supper?” He asked.
“I told you could invite them for longer then that.” I pointed out. “How many guys though, so I can tell the cook how many to expect.”
“Everyone who’s coming back next year.” Sidney said fiercely. “We’re going to start building next year’s time today… this isn’t going to happen to us again.”
I nodded and hugged him. “Next year it’s your turn Sidney. I have faith.”
“Thanks baby.” He whispered into my hair. “Next year will be the year of the next one, if I have anything to say about it.”
I giggled. He was all earnest and everything and I know that he believed every word that he’d just said, but it still sounded funny. “Sid, since you are the next one, I have no doubt that if you want 2004-2005 to be your year, well kid it will be.”
“Love you.” He said gruffly, glancing at his agent, who was doing a very good job of distracting the guy from TSN.
“Love you too kid.” I replied, squeezing his hand firmly in mine.
With that I headed back to the hotel, calling our cook from the car to inform him that we’d have a number of very hungry hockey players joining us for dinner and that he should prepare accordingly. Basically I told him to buffet for the night, because that would probably be easiest.
Once that was taken care of, I had the maid put away anything that might get broken and set up a drunk-proof bar – plastic glasses and bottles instead of crystal. Once she’d done all of that, I headed off to have a shower.
I was sticky and covered in champagne… my white shirt was never going to be white again, that was for sure. I sighed as the hot water hit my skin. I could hear someone moving around in the next room, but when the shower door opened, I screamed.
“Calm down.” Sidney’s voice said, as he took me into his arms. “It’s just me.”
“Well you scared me half to death.” I snapped, melting into his embrace.
Sidney grinned and leaned down, kissing me passionately. “Well you’re taking that well.” He muttered into my mouth.
“I have a hot naked guy in my shower.” I replied. “Who wouldn’t take it well?”
“No idea….” Sidney mumbled as his lips met mine again.
I’m not exactly sure how long we were in the shower for. But that really didn’t matter, because either way, it was fantastic. We hadn’t been together in so long, I’d almost forgotten how sweet it could be when our bodies were together like that. “God I love you Kally.” Sidney whispered forcefully as we rinsed off after having sex our bodies still entangled.
I kissed him softly on the lips. “I love you too sexy.” I muttered as I poured conditioner on my hands so that I could get the tangles out of my hair.
Sidney watched an adoring look in his eyes as I reached up above my head, working the conditioner into my hair. “You’re beautiful baby.” He mumbled, taking me into his arms and kissing me forcefully.
“Miss Van Steen?” The maid’s voice, sounding uncertain, called from the living room.
“Yes?” I replied winking at Sidney, who pouted when I stopped kissing him.
“There are some gentlemen here to see you and Mr. Crosby.” She replied. “What would you have me do with them?”
I glanced at Sidney, feeling a little panicked. “Why are they here already?” I hissed.
Sidney shrugged. “I um, think that we’ve been in here awhile.” He said.
“Umm just put them with the liquor in the living room.” I called. “Oh and have cook send out the appetizers.”
“Immediately Miss Van Steen.” She replied. “Should I tell the gentlemen that you will be along shortly?”
“Whatever.” I called in replied as Sidney and I toweled off.
I picked up my clothes, and realized that I had absolutely nothing with me that I could wear right now. I sighed. “You go out and make the guys comfortable.” I commanded him. “I made sure to bring out a keg of that Molson crap that Danny loves so much.” I told him. “Because I figured your teammates would want that. There’s Cris, corona and tequila too.”
Sidney grinned as he shook out his hair and pulled on his pants. “You spoil me baby.”
I shrugged and grinned. “Of course I do Sid. You spoil me in all kind of other pleasurable ways.”
Sidney grinned, pleased. “What can I say Kally? We both have skills. It’s nice having skills together… makes things much more fun.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me into him, kissing me passionately as he did so.
“Stop that.” I muttered breathless when we came up for air. “Go see your friends.”
“Yes ma’am.” Sidney said obediently heading into the living room with a pleasant smile.
I hurried into my bedroom and grabbed a pair of Calvin Klein low rise jeans and a white and pink sequined tank. Spraying my hair with some product to make it curl as it dried, I hurriedly fixed my make up and headed out to join Sid and his friends.
Sid handed me a glass of Cris the minutes I walked into the living room. “Thanks sexy.” I mumbled, kissing him on the cheek.
Sidney blushed and shrugged. “I know you like to let it sit for a couple of minutes.” He mumbled in explanation. “So I just poured it for you.”
“Thanks.” I said, taking a sip.
“Isn’t that cute?” One of the guys asked, his voice a little snarky. “The happy couple is happy once again.”
I shrugged. “Sure beats trying to rip each others hearts out, throw them on the floor and stomping on them.” I pointed out.
I glanced around the room. Dion Phaneuf, Braydon Coburn, Brent Seabrook, Shawn Belle, Jeff Carter, Anthony Stewart. Ryan Getzlaf, Mike Richards, Jeremy Colliton, Brent Burns, Stephen Dixon and Nigel Dawes were all sitting around. Most had a beer in hand. It had been Brent Burns who’d made the nasty comment, so I threw him a bit of a glare.
Sidney had been the youngest player on this team by two years. I was the same age as the guys in the room. Sidney glanced at me and squeezed my hand. “Don’t worry about it Kally.” He said. “Brent’s a big shot since he’s been in the NHL already.”
Several of the guys snorted. “Thanks for the beer.” Ryan said with a smile.
I shrugged. “No problem.” I said. “Dad said that he had enough alcohol for both teams to get good and wasted tonight. So I just had some of it sent up here.”
“She spoils me.” Sidney said with a shrug. “And that extends to my friends. So enjoy it.”
I glanced at him, not sure what he was saying. I mean, we’d just gotten back together and he was bragging that I was spoiling him? Was that the only reason that we were back together? Because I had money? I shook my head trying to shake the negativity from my mind.
Sidney had begged me to take him back. He was not that big of a jerk, and I knew that. It was almost as though he was trying to go back to September though… when things between us were fine. But this wasn’t September. We’d gone through a lot since then, both individually and as a couple.
I sighed and took another sip of my champagne. “Dinner should be ready soon.” I said. “If you guys want to top up, I think cook’s doing it up buffet style in the dinning room, so just grab whatever you want and we can watch… well hockey or something on TV or you guys can pull out the PS2. Whatever.”
About an hour later, I was bored. The guys had eaten their weight in food and had drank about as much. They were playing Madden and basically drinking their asses off. It wasn’t exactly that much fun for me. Mike Richards was looking bored too. He glanced at me. “Kally do you mind if we invite a few people up here?” He asked. “I mean, I have some cousins our age who are here, and it would be more fun up here with more people.”
I shrugged. “Yeah for sure.” I said. “Invite whoever you want.”
“Not Josh.” Sidney said making a face, and coming over to put a protective arm around my shoulders. “I didn’t like the way he looked at Kally.”
Brent rolled his eyes. “If you had your way Darryl, no one would be allowed to look at her period. In fact, you especially don’t like the way Zach Parise looks at her. Or talks about her for that matter Sidney. He really managed to get under your skin tonight.”
“Zachie wasn’t behaving himself?” I asked, feeling more then a little surprised.
Dion shrugged. “There was a gold medal on the line. I’d do anything to get under a guy’s skin too.” He pointed out. “Including nasty comments about a guy’s girl or Mom definitely fall under that category.”
I shook my head angrily. “Sorry about him Sid.” I said, leaning into him, feeling a little disgusted with Zach. “I’ll tell Zachie he had better apologize.”
“Don’t.” Sidney said tightly. “He crossed the line and he knew it.”
“Oh.” I said quietly, unsure of what else I could say or do.
Meanwhile, Mikey had been on the phone calling anyone and everyone he could think of, to get them up here. The guys were depressed about losing and they just wanted to let loose and party. I couldn’t blame any of them for that.
What I could blame Mikey for, however, was who he invited up here. As people knocked on the door to the suite it seemed like the majority of people were female, not male. I glanced around, feeling uncertain. Sidney was still playing PS2 with Braydon, so I let it go for the moment and went to pour myself another drink.
When I came back, there was a girl draped over the side of the couch, her fingers touching Sidney’s hair. Jealously bubbled up in me and I struggled to control it. “Hey sexy.” I said wandering over to where Sidney sat. “Do you need another drink?” I asked him, plopping down right next to the girl, leaning down to lick and kiss at Sidney’s ear.
Sidney moaned slightly. “Tease.” He muttered, turning his head up and kissing me firmly.
“You like me that way remember?” I replied with a teasing smile. “Or you did in the shower a couple of hours ago.” I added with a triumphant glance at the other girl.
“Is this your bitchy girlfriend Sidney?” The girl asked.
I raised my eyebrows. “Bitchy girlfriend?” I asked pointedly.
Sidney blushed beet red. “I was a little upset when I said that.” He muttered awkwardly. “Kally this is Ashley Carter… Jeff’s cousin. Ashley this is my girlfriend, Kallista Von Steen.”
“Of the New York Van Steen’s.” I added petulantly, extending my hand.
Ashley rolled her eyes. “The sex must be really good Darryl.” She said, eyeing me carefully. “Because she really is a pretentious bitch, just like you said.”
