I woke up the next morning feeling groggy, tired and hung over. My mouth was dry, my back was one big ache, and I wanted nothing more then to go throw up a few times. I’d probably feel better after that in all honesty.
It took me a few minutes to realize that I was at the Bèlangers, sitting, or rather sleeping, in a chair in Sidney’s bedroom. I wondered how this had happened, because the last time I remember seeing Sidney was when I stormed out of the bathroom after announcing to him that I would just have an abortion if I were really pregnant.
I glanced over at the time… 9:30. Sidney’s bed didn’t appear to have been slept in at all. So unless he’d already gotten up and made his bed without waking me (which was possible, just not likely), then he probably hadn’t spent the night here. I ran my hand through my tangled hair and stood.
I poked my head out the door. The Bèlangers didn’t appear to be up yet, and if they were, they were definitely gone. The house was completely silent. I tiptoed next door to Eric’s room anywhere and opened the door slowly.
I wasn’t surprised to find that Eric was not alone in bed. There was a pretty blonde girl whose name I could not remember for the life of me next to him. “Eric?” I asked softly.
The girl glared at me and said something to Eric in rapid French. He turned to her and told her to wait a minute. “Comment ca va Kally?” He asked.
“Ou est Sidney?” I asked in return.
“Je ne sais pas.” Eric replied. “Il m’a demande de t’apporter ici vers deux heures le matin, puis il a disparu.”
“Est-ce que tu connais si ma voiture est encore a Danny’s?” I asked, feeling for the weight of my car keys in my purse.
“Oui je crois.” He answered. “Est-ce que tu veut que je te prends?”
“S’il vous plait.” I answered rubbing my eyes tiredly.
The girl next to him did not appear happy by this turn of events, especially since Eric told her to get dressed and that he’d drop her off before he took me to Danny’s. Apparently this was my fault. I just glared right back at her. I was too hung over for this shit.
Eric dropped the girl off at a nearby house before swinging me back to Danny’s billet’s place. The boy was going to have a lot of clean up to do. The party had gotten way out of control. It was a good thing that his billets weren’t going to be back until Sunday night. “Merci Eric.” I said leaning over and kissing him on the cheek.
“De rien Kally.” He said with a small smile. “Don’t worry too much.” He told me firmly. “It’s not good for you.”
“I’ll keep it in mind.” I replied with a small smile of my own.
My car was sitting where I had left it the night before, but I figured I should go and interrupt whatever fun Danny was having (if of course he was still having fun). The door was still unlocked and I shook my head as I made my way into the house. There were people just like, passed out all over the place.
I headed for Danny’s room. To my surprise, he was alone in bed, something I completely had NOT expected after a wild night of partying. I jumped on him anyway. His arm wrapped around me tightly and flung me next to him. “God Kally I know you always have to make an entrance, but was that really necessary?” He asked, not bothering to open his eyes.
I shrugged and moaned. “Probably not, because I think it upset my stomach more then anything else.”
He chuckled. “Good.” He said. “You deserve it. How you feeling this morning?”
“I’ve been better.” I replied. “And I’ve been worse, so I can’t really complain that much.”
“You and Sidney really had it out last night didn’t you?” He said, running his hand through his hair.
“Well we argued in the bathroom.” I told him. “About the fact that I was drunk and I might be pregnant.”
“You don’t remember the rest of it?” Danny asked.
“There was more?” I moaned.
Danny chuckled, and rolled over, throwing an arm around me in the process. I snuggled close. I needed a cuddle. “Lots more.” He said.
“Oh lord.” I muttered, burying my face in his chest. “What did I say?”
“It’s not so much what you said.” Danny said, a wicked grin on his face. “So much as it was what you DID.”
“Oh great.” I said sarcastically. “What did I do?”
“Basically you got up on a table where you basically announced to all of the girls chasing Sidney that they could have him if they wanted a controlling, arrogant asshole.” Danny said. “And then Sidney told me that I could keep the prima donna if I wanted her.”
“And what did you say?” I asked.
“I told him that would be the biggest mistake he’d ever make, but if he was willing to make it, for a price I’d be willing to take you off his hands.” He said.
I air kissed him on the cheek, in true prima donna fashion. “Gee thanks Danny.” I said sarcastically.
He hugged me tight. “You know I love you Kal.” He said.
“Of course you have yet to explain to me how I ended up at the Bèlangers without Sidney.” I said. “And Eric didn’t give me much of an explanation either come to think of it.”
“Well Sidney pulled you down off the table and you basically turned him on as much as you possibly could as he slid you down his body. He turned, shoved you at Eric, once he managed to get himself together enough to be able to shove you away. That was hilarious by the way, watching him fighting the urge to hit you or kiss you or both at the same time.” Danny grinned at the memory.
I shrugged. “He’s probably had to fight that urge several times since we’ve met Danny.” I told him. “It shouldn’t be anything new to him.”
Danny laughed. “Sometimes I think you’re too much for the kid Kal.” He said, as we cuddled together.
I shrugged again. “Maybe I am.” I said, sniffling. “But I love him Danny.”
Danny smoothed my hair with a gentle hand. “I know you do honey.” He told me, his voice soft. “Otherwise I would totally be making a move on you now or Mark would, because you totally deserve better.”
I sighed. “Like you guys keep reminding me, he’s only 16.” I said. “I can’t really expect much, can I?”
“You should be able to Kal.” He said firmly. “You left your country for him. You’re only just about 18 and I’m only 18, but I would say that if any girl left her family for me, I’d give her everything, no matter what.”
I shrugged again. “I can’t control everything that happens Danny. I’ve learned that.” I told him. “And I can’t control what goes on in Sidney’s head. I actually understand how scared he is. Fuck I’m just as scared. I have no clue what my family is going to do if I am pregnant.”
Danny sighed and shook his head. “What would be the ideal for you, if you’re actually pregnant I mean?”
“Ideally?” I said, thinking. “Sidney would understand, and want to be a part of the baby’s life, even if he didn’t want anything to do with me anymore. I’d go somewhere to have the baby and then I’d go to Princeton in the fall. While the baby stayed with a nanny in The City with my Grandparents.”
“And worse case scenario?” He asked.
“I have an abortion.” I said quietly. “And I think I told Sidney last night that that was what I was going to do.”
“Shit.” Danny said, running another hand through his hair. “You were drunk and angry though.” He pointed out, in case I’d forgotten or something. “So he should cut you a little slack.”
I shrugged again. “All I’m doing lately is cutting him slack Danny. I don’t think he’s ready to cut me any.”
“Well he should be.” Danny replied angrily. “Mark and I are really starting to get angry with him Kal. This is just wrong.”
“Please don’t tell him I told you guys.” I begged. “He’s already angry enough. If he knows I told you guys he’ll lose it on me.”
“It’s tempting to smack him upside the head though Kal.” He said. “You really should look in to taking a pregnancy test though.”
I shrugged. “Probably.” I said, burying my face in his chest again. “But I’m scared Danny. Not knowing is a hell of a lot easier right now. Especially with Sidney being such a jerk.”
Danny smoothed my hair with a gentle hand. “Kally you need to get up.” He said after a minute.
“Why?” I asked, cuddling closer. “I haven’t had a good cuddle since I told Sidney that I was late.”
“Yes and you are far too good at it.” Danny said with a tight smile. “My body cannot handle it after a night of drinking.”
I giggled, realizing what he meant. I sat up and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. “I guess I’ll have to wait until Finland to get a cuddle.”
“You’re going to Finland?” Danny asked.
I nodded, sitting cross-legged on his bed. “Dad made huge donations to USA Hockey and Hockey Canada this week. I mean, we had tickets, but apparently the donations are to grease the wheels. He’s coming here for American Thanksgiving, and then he’s going back to New York to spend some time with Grandmama and Grandpapa, and then we’re off to Finland on the 20th.”
“What if Sidney doesn’t make the team?” He asked.
I rolled my eyes. “Did hell freeze over and I wasn’t informed?”
Danny chuckled. “But still, say he gets hurt?”
“Then I go over, and cheer on Zachie, who is going to be on Team USA, and I think Drew, who was a good friend of Sidney’s, will be there for sure too.” I told him. “And I mean, Zachie is who I intend to get my cuddle from.”
“You and Parisé really are close.” He said redundantly.
“The best friend I have in the whole world, other than Sidney.” I said.
“What about me?” Danny said mournfully, looking at me with puppy dog eyes.
“Oh don’t worry Stewart. You’re on the list and climbing.” I told him teasingly.
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re a brat Kally?” He said throwing a pillow at me.
I threw a pillow back at him. “Yes.” I said. “Often….” I stopped and paused. “And its mainly because… well I am a brat.” I giggled.
He laughed. “Well when you’re right you’re right.”
I giggled and hugged him. “I should probably get going right away.” I said as we pulled back, Danny pressing a kiss on my forehead as I did so.
“You good to drive?” He asked.
“Sober as a judge.” I said with a laugh. “Actually probably more sober.”
Danny chuckled. “Well then I’ll see you later ‘kay Kal?” He said, rolling onto his stomach.
“You’re going to go back to sleep aren’t you?” I said.
“Damn straight.” He said, closing his eyes.
“Well I’ll leave you to it.” I said, throwing another pillow at him. “Because that’s what I plan on doing when I get home.”
So I left. I headed out, got in my car, and drove to my house, knowing full well that if I were pulled over I would probably blow over the limit. That’s what happens when you drink as much as I had that night. So I drove slowly and carefully in the hopes that I wouldn’t get pulled over before I got home.
To my surprise, my house wasn’t locked. I made my way inside cautiously, clutching my cell phone in my hand. If I had to call the cops I wanted my phone right there. I made my way slowly through the house. No one seemed to be there.
I wandered to my bedroom, and noticed that the door was closed, which was odd, since I distinctly remembered leaving it open the night before. In fact it was one of the last things I remembered before my memory got all fuzzy. I opened the door cautiously. Sidney was laying on my bed, passed out, a little brunette, who probably wasn’t anymore then 15 next to him.
I cleared my throat loudly. “Sorry to like, break up this little party.” I said angrily. “But I would really like to go back to sleep, since I spent the night asleep in a chair waiting for my BOYFRIEND to show up, at HIS place. Now that I’m at my own, I’d like my bed back. Unless of course, I need to have the sheets washed first.” I added sarcastically.
Apparently this was not enough to wake the little brunette up, but it definitely got Sid moving. “Kally, baby, it’s not what it looks like.”
I snorted. “Yeah, right, please Sid, feed me another one.”
“No really Kally I swear to you.” He said, his eyes pleading.
“Sidney get the fuck out of my house please.” I said in a calm collected voice. I wasn’t going to lose my temper.
“Kally baby please listen to me.” Sidney begged.
“Not right now Sidney.” I said, turning away so that I couldn’t see the tears in my eyes. “Just… not now.”
